Changing the speed of the belt significantly, however, can affect not only the volume of material entering the chute, but the first point of contact in the chute as the material leaves the belt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coralynne.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/FAST-PIC-01-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coralynne.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/FAST-PIC-01-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9098\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.coralynne.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/FAST-PIC-01-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.coralynne.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/FAST-PIC-01-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.coralynne.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/FAST-PIC-01-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.coralynne.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/FAST-PIC-01-1536x1025.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.coralynne.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/FAST-PIC-01-2048x1367.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe speed of the conveyor belt has a direct impact on the trajectory of material when it reaches the chute,\u201d says Tintinger. \u201cWhen changing the belt speed from 2,5 m\/s to 3 m\/s, for example, the chute would easily accommodate this. However, if the speed was doubled, this would change the trajectory so that the material impacts a different point in the conveyor, and at a different angle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explains that Weba Chute Systems adopts a customised approach to each chute\u2019s specific application, modelling the flow of material to guide the final design. A higher speed of material will start to straighten the trajectory and change the impact angle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs the impact angle approaches 90 degrees, there is a risk that material flow could stall,\u201d he says. \u201cRather than slowing down on impact and then accelerating downward towards the discharge point, the material could start backing up and clog the chute.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coralynne.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/FAST-PIC-03-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coralynne.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/FAST-PIC-03-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.coralynne.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/FAST-PIC-03-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.coralynne.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/FAST-PIC-03-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.coralynne.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/FAST-PIC-03-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.coralynne.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/FAST-PIC-03-1536x1025.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.coralynne.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/FAST-PIC-03-2048x1367.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While some chute manufacturers introduce platework to bend the trajectory of material, this adds to the wear on the chute. Weba Chute Systems generally applies its full cascade designs, using dead box sections to reduce the impact and speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe change of angle of material onto the first dead-box will not necessarily change the flow pattern, but it is likely to affect the speed of material through the chute,\u201d says Tintinger. \u201cIt is therefore important to check the chute\u2019s capacity to still allow enough material to pass through smoothly.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chutes at materials handling transfer points must generally deal with varying conveyor belt speeds and surges in material volumes.
