De Beers\u2019 near-term SBTi-validated targets are to\u00a0reduce\u00a0absolute\u00a0Scope\u00a01\u00a0and\u00a0Scope\u00a02\u00a0emissions\u00a042\u00a0percent by\u00a02030\u00a0and\u00a0to\u00a0reduce\u00a0absolute\u00a0Scope\u00a03\u00a0emissions\u00a025\u00a0percent within the\u00a0same\u00a0timeframe. In\u00a0setting\u00a0the\u00a0targets\u00a0across\u00a0all\u00a0three\u00a0scopes, De\u00a0Beers is extending\u00a0its\u00a0climate ambition over\u00a0and\u00a0above\u00a0its\u00a0existing commitment\u00a0to\u00a0be\u00a0carbon neutral\u00a0across Scope\u00a01\u00a0and 2 emissions by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SBTi-validated targets represent the reductions required\u00a0by the organisation to align with the goals of the\u00a0Paris\u00a0Agreement\u00a0on\u00a0climate change.\u00a0However,\u00a0under\u00a0its\u00a0existing\u00a0carbon\u00a0neutral\u00a0commitment\u00a0and\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0implementation\u00a0of\u00a0its\u00a0\u2018Reduce\u00a0and\u00a0Replace\u2019\u00a0strategy,\u00a0DeBeers\u00a0expects\u00a0to\u00a0exceed\u00a0its\u00a0SBTi-validated\u00a0targets\u00a0for\u00a0reducing\u00a0Scope\u00a01\u00a0and\u00a02\u00a0emissions\u00a0by\u00a02030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De\u00a0Beers\u00a0also\u00a0accelerated\u00a0the\u00a0pace\u00a0of\u00a0innovation\u00a0and\u00a0investment\u00a0in\u00a0its\u00a0blockchain\u00a0provenance\u00a0platform, Tracr. The platform was deployed at scale in 2022 and enables participants to provide assurance of a diamond\u2019s\u00a0source\u00a0as\u00a0it\u00a0travels\u00a0through\u00a0the\u00a0value\u00a0chain. energy\u00a0projects\u00a0in\u00a0southern\u00a0Africa.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Invested&nbsp;$2&nbsp;million&nbsp;in&nbsp;Kelp&nbsp;Blue,&nbsp;a&nbsp;start-up&nbsp;that&nbsp;grows&nbsp;underwater&nbsp;kelp&nbsp;forests&nbsp;off&nbsp;the&nbsp;coast&nbsp;of&nbsp;Namibia, faster&nbsp;than&nbsp;land-based&nbsp;forests.&nbsp;In&nbsp;addition&nbsp;to&nbsp;supporting&nbsp;De&nbsp;Beers\u2019&nbsp;carbon&nbsp;neutral&nbsp;commitment,&nbsp;KelpBlue&nbsp;will&nbsp;also&nbsp;create&nbsp;jobs&nbsp;and&nbsp;support&nbsp;sustainable&nbsp;economic&nbsp;development&nbsp;in&nbsp;Namibia.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marked&nbsp;the&nbsp;20th&nbsp;anniversary&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;Diamond&nbsp;Route,&nbsp;the&nbsp;500,000-acre&nbsp;network&nbsp;of&nbsp;conservation&nbsp;sites that De Beers manages across southern Africa, protecting more than 50 mammal species.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continued\u00a0Okavango\u00a0Eternal,\u00a0a\u00a0partnership\u00a0with\u00a0National\u00a0Geographic\u00a0to\u00a0protect\u00a0the\u00a0critically important\u00a0headwards\u00a0of the Okavango\u00a0Delta.\u00a0Progress included\u00a0installing\u00a0innovative\u00a0water\u00a0monitoring technology, deepening research\u00a0and understanding, and communities,\u00a0with\u00a0particular\u00a0emphasis\u00a0on\u00a0health\u00a0and\u00a0wellbeing,\u00a0education\u00a0and skills development, economic diversification, and livelihood
